Xogot Is Moving to Godot 4.6

Xogot builds based on Godot 4.6.1 are already available in XogotBeta. Learn what’s new, test your projects, and help us prepare the update for TestFlight and the App Store.

Screen Space Reflections in Xogot: Godot 4.5 vs. Godot 4.6

Xogot builds based on Godot 4.6.1 are available in our XogotBeta TestFlight today, and we’re preparing to promote those builds into the main Xogot TestFlight soon. If testing continues to go well, Godot 4.6.1-based Xogot will be heading to the App Store in the next few weeks.

We’ve had Godot 4.6 builds available in XogotBeta for a few months now, and current beta users are not reporting any major issues. That gives us confidence that it’s time to make these builds available to a wider group of testers and ultimately send these releases to the App Store.

What's new in Godot 4.6

Godot 4.6 includes many engine improvements that are relevant to projects built in Xogot, especially for 3D, mobile rendering, and animation:

Godot 4.6’s new inverse kinematics framework running in Xogot on iPad

  • A new inverse kinematics framework adds new IK modifiers, solvers, and constraints for procedural 3D animation
  • Screen Space Reflections have been overhauled, with better visual stability, roughness handling, and performance
  • 3D texture imports are faster, with some compressed textures importing two times faster
  • Mesh LOD generation has improved, helping distant 3D objects preserve their shape better
  • Jolt Physics is now the default for new 3D projects, bringing a faster and more robust physics backend while leaving existing project settings unchanged
  • Rendering improvements include better glow blending, configurable AgX tonemapping, lighter reflection and radiance probes, material debanding, and improved HDR precision
  • And much more across scripting, debugging, localization, asset pipeline, and platform support. Read the official Godot 4.6 release notes for the full list of changes.

Test Your Projects with Godot 4.6 Today

If you’re already in XogotBeta, you can install the latest Godot 4.6.x-based build today and try it with your projects.

If you’re not in XogotBeta yet and would like to help test the upcoming release, you can sign up here:

As always, we recommend backing up your projects before opening them in a newer version of Godot. If you use Git or another version control system, this is a good time to commit your current work before testing the upgrade.

Coming Soon to the Main Xogot TestFlight

XogotBeta is where we test builds that may need additional validation before reaching a broader audience. The main Xogot TestFlight hosts builds that we consider close to App Store ready.

Because the Godot 4.6.1 builds have been testing well in XogotBeta, we plan to move them into the main Xogot TestFlight in the next few days.

Once the 4.6.1 builds are available there, TestFlight users will be able to try the upcoming App Store release before it ships publicly.

What This Means for the App Store Version

When the next major Xogot update ships to the App Store, Xogot will move forward from Godot 4.5.x to Godot 4.6.1.

We know that engine upgrades can affect existing projects, so we encourage anyone with an active project to test the 4.6.1 builds before the App Store release. Godot provides an official migration guide for moving from Godot 4.5 to Godot 4.6, and we recommend reviewing it before upgrading production projects.

Once you open a project in Godot 4.6.1, you should assume that the project may no longer be suitable for continued editing in Godot 4.5.x. Please make a backup first.

Need to Stay on Godot 4.5?

We expect most users to move forward with Godot 4.6.1, but we also understand that some projects or teams may have a significant need to stay on Godot 4.5.x for a while longer.

If that applies to you, we recommend disabling automatic updates for Xogot before the App Store release goes live. The App Store does not provide a way to downgrade to an earlier version of an app, so once you install the Godot 4.6-based version of Xogot, there is no way to go back to the Godot 4.5-based App Store release.

If you have a significant need to remain on Godot 4.5.x, please contact us.

We’d like to understand your situation and what kind of compatibility timeline you need.

Help Us Validate the Release

The best way to help is to test your existing Xogot projects in the Godot 4.6.1 builds and let us know if you run into anything unexpected.

You can get started today through XogotBeta, or watch for the 4.6.1 builds to appear soon in the main Xogot TestFlight.

Thanks to everyone who has already been testing the Godot 4.6 builds in XogotBeta. Your feedback helps us bring the latest version of Godot to iPad and iPhone with more confidence.
