Make Games Anywhere: Introducing Godot for iPhone and Xogot Lite

Since the beginning of time, or at least since the launch of Xogot for iPad, developers have asked: “But can you put Godot on the iPhone?”

Today, we’re thrilled to say that the answer is "Yes!". With our latest release, Xogot is now available on iPhone, putting a full game development environment in the palm of your hand. And, with the launch of Xogot Lite, you can now get started for free.

Why iPhone?

The interest was clear from the start.

Early TestFlight participants immediately wanted to know if they could try Xogot on their phones. At GodotCon Boston, we heard countless stories from developers who wanted game development to be more portable. Godot’s Android maintainers shared adoption numbers that surprised even us, and Chad Stewart’s presentation "I Make Games on my Phone (And They Actually Work)" showed what’s possible when creativity isn’t tethered to a desk.

That inspired us to push Xogot even further — and reimagine the editor for iPhone.

Xogot, Reimagined for a Smaller Screen

Designing a powerful editor for a pocket-sized device was no small task. We overhauled layouts, restructured tool panels, and introduced native iOS sheets to give iPhone users the same professional workflow as iPad — but optimized for a small display.

Highlights include:

• All the Key Editors: 2D, 3D, Shaders, Tile Map Layers, Animations, and Sprite editors are all available on iPhone.
• On-the-Fly Coding: Make quick code changes in a native script editor with integrated documentation and a full debugger.
• Universal Menus and Tools: Web Export, Project Settings, Asset Library, and Settings are all accessible on iPhone.
• Full Godot Inspector: Edit any node property in your scene with tools fully optimized for touch.

In short, you can now create, edit, and run full Godot projects — entirely on your iPhone.

This release also builds on the latest and greatest from the Godot engine. With Godot 4.4 inside, Xogot brings some of the most exciting new features directly to your pocket:

• Jolt Physics: High-performance 3D physics support for smoother, more realistic gameplay.
• Embedded Game View: Play your game instantly inside the editor with interactive in-game editing.
• Camera3D Preview: Fine-tune camera angles with a live preview hosted in the inspector.
• Metal Rendering Backend: Faster, more efficient rendering tailored for Apple GPUs.

Introducing Xogot Lite

Alongside iPhone support, this release also introduces Xogot Lite, a free tier available on both iPad and iPhone. Xogot Lite makes it easy to start building games right away, with most of the core editor features available at no cost.

Lite is designed for smaller projects, with limits on project size, number of active projects, and advanced settings. Xogot Lite will enable you to build and run almost all of the sample projects hosted in our Learning Center, and you can easily share your games on share.xogot.com. Upgrade to work with larger projects, or if you need external storage, advanced settings, or downloadable web exports for services like itch.io.

A Portable Game Studio

Game development is no longer confined to desktops or even laptops. With Xogot on iPhone, your phone can be a full creative studio — a place where you can sketch out a prototype on your commute, refine your levels in a coffee shop, or test gameplay tweaks anywhere inspiration strikes.
